CD Reviews
Smooth Jazz is always hungry for new high-quality artists, and guitarist/composer Udi Levy fills the bill perfectly with his debut project SMOOTH JAZZ TALES. A native of Israel, where he actually started his active musical career with a rock band, Udi now lives in New York. With numerous performances as an in-demand sideman, as well as dates with his “Udi Levy Quartet” at major NYC jazz venues, he’s definitely keeping himself in the spotlight. When you check out this superb collection of original compositions, you’ll easily hear why he’s getting all these gigs! It’s refreshing, organic, high-caliber guitar jazz, in the footsteps of Wes Montgomery, George Benson, and Norman Brown. Mr. Levy moves deftly from gentle (“Things from the Heart”) to in-the-pocket Smooth Jazz (“We’ll Meet Again”) to funk (“Funktion”) on this disc… always with passion and warmth. SMOOTH JAZZ TALES is a must-have CD from a rapidly rising star!
Straight out of
Udi's debut CD, "Smooth Jazz Tales", has a superbly refreshing sound. Kind of like Wes Montgomery meet's Norman Brown, sprinkled with a little George Benson.
The CD starts off with the smooth mid-tempo song "We'll Meet Again" which will set the tone for the rest of the CD. Other mid-tempo songs are "As Simple As That", "Those Beautiful Days", & "
Udi gets funky with "Funktion", & "Just Say It". Udi also slows the groove down with "Thoughts", "Would You", & "Things From The Heart".
Even though jazz has come to a stand still, there are still jazz artists like him that give and release refreshing new music to the world. Udi's CD is just "refreshing". His playing style comes from the heart - you can feel the passion, you can feel the warmth - it's like he's talking to you through his guitar.
Don't hesitate to pick up this CD for your collection.
